I’ve been out over the past couple of weeks, alive, but struggling with a major tooth infection that had spread up my bones, sinuses and eyes. I’ve told this story a few times, but thought I’d share it here as well.
About 5 years ago, on a bout with some chicken wings, I chipped one of my premolars. I was told to visit a dentist at the time but I considered it a waste of my time and money. At the time, it would have cost me about $250 to get it filled.
Fast forward to 2 months ago, bad decay and multiple conquered infections later, I got the super bug that wouldn’t back down. My body had gotten tired of fighting the infections and this one had gotten through. I waited for the usual pain relief ~7 days later but this time not. I started feeling weak, tired and achy all the time. Needless to say, almost every facet of my life started to suffer from this infection.
Fast forward to ~3 weeks ago, I gave up and saw a dentist. I had fevers, allergies, flu, headaches, sleepiness, everything wrong under the sun. They took x-rays. The infection had spread. It had gone up the left side of my face and was about to take down my eye, and then maybe my brain.
2 surgeries (1 to go) and almost $3,000 later, I’m finally feeling like myself again. Morale of the story, fix small problems before they become way bigger than they ever were.
Dollar Cost: ~$250
Optimum Productive Time Cost: 1 day (max)
Dollar Cost (1000% more): ~$2,750 (probably more over the next few weeks)
Optimum Productive Time Cost (8900% more): ~3 months (priceless!)
Pain. A LOT of pain.
Folks, fix it now! Just fix it. Business, team, personal, financial, health or whatever. Just do it. On another note, interesting notes from my experiences with the healthcare industry over the past few weeks coming soon.
